How to find the BPM of a sample
Count a steady beat over a measured interval, then check it against a metronome. BPM is beats per minute; the choice of beat matters as much as the arithmetic.

Count and calculate
Count beat intervals over a known duration. If 32 beat intervals span 16 seconds, the tempo is 60 × 32 ÷ 16 = 120 BPM. Counting attacks instead of the intervals between them can introduce an off-by-one error.
Use a longer passage
A longer steady passage reduces the effect of a small timing error. Start and end on known beat boundaries. A loop with extra silence or a pickup may not span the number of bars its filename suggests.
Check half and double time
A groove may support 70 or 140 BPM depending on the intended pulse. Try the click against the phrasing and subdivision rather than choosing the larger number because a detector displayed it.
Separate changing tempo from a wrong estimate
If a click fits one section and drifts in another, the performance may vary or change tempo. One BPM value is not a complete tempo map. A single isolated hit does not provide a repeating interval from which to infer musical tempo.
