Does key detection work on a live stream?
A live reader can analyze audio while it plays. Its result reflects the material heard so far, which is different from analyzing a whole file or looking up a released song in a database.

Use the intended input
For a Mac-wide reader, choose system audio when the stream plays on the computer. Microphone mode analyzes sound reaching the mic, including room noise and other sources.
Allow musical context
A brief introduction or percussion-only section may not establish a useful tonal center. Listen through a representative phrase and compare another section when the result is uncertain.
Handle changes deliberately
A stream can change songs or move to another key. Check whether the reader is actively listening or holding a prior result, and start another analysis when needed.
Connect the result to the session
For production, the next step may be a DAW tempo, a scale setting or Auto-Tune. The supported destination matters as much as the source; use the current integration instructions.
Using SESSION™ Key
Read system audio, use the microphone, or drop an audio or MIDI file on the menu bar. Live analysis follows the passage playing; a file gives the analyzer a different span of material.
The outline marks a locked reading; green and amber communicate confidence separately. A locked reading can still be uncertain. Listen, check the musical context, and use the half-time or double-time control when the pulse needs it.
