The workflow difference

HoRNet documents real-time chord, key and tempo detection, a standalone app for macOS and Windows, and MIDI clock output from detected tempo. Its plugin can work inside a DAW; the standalone version can analyze live inputs or other applications. MIDI clock synchronization and writing a project key signature are different destinations.

When reconstructing a progression from a loop, examine SongKey's chord output. When setting a project from a reference, compare the steps from hearing the passage to putting its tempo and key into the supported DAW.

SESSION™ Key at a glance

Price
$49 once
Requirements
macOS 14.4 or later on Apple silicon. One license covers up to three Macs.
Input and setup
Read system audio, use the microphone, or drop an audio or MIDI file on the menu bar. Live analysis follows the passage playing; a file gives the analyzer a different span of material.
Working with it
Optional Beta sends connect the reading to supported DAWs and Auto-Tune. The fields and setup vary by destination. Check the integration guide before purchasing for a particular send.
Before the session
The outline marks a locked reading; green and amber communicate confidence separately. A locked reading can still be uncertain. Listen, check the musical context, and use the half-time or double-time control when the pulse needs it.

Before the first session

Confirm the current SongKey formats and operating-system support before purchase. Analyze a representative passage instead of expecting one chord to establish the whole song.

Questions before choosing

Is chord detection the same as key detection?

No. A chord describes a harmony at a particular moment. A key describes the tonal center of a passage. A song can contain chords outside the key without changing its tonal center.

When should I choose SESSION™ Key instead?

Choose Key for a menu bar readout followed by supported project sends. Choose SongSESSION™ Key when chord output, MIDI clock or a Windows workflow matters more.

What does HoRNet SongKey MK4 cost compared with SESSION™ Key?

HoRNet SongKey MK4: €13.99. The manufacturer displays euros. Key’s $49 price is in US dollars; no exchange-rate comparison is implied. SESSION™ Key costs $49 once.
